I’ve been hanging out with old friends lately.
Bright yellow lemons from my mother’s tree.
The orange vase.
The cobalt jar.
Even older friends have returned for their star turn – ancient paintbrushes in a jar, the white teapot — even the California coast itself.
I’ve spent a lot of time with these objects. Looking, grouping, drawing and painting. They have assisted me in classes I’ve taught, and entertained me for endless hours of contemplation.
Some are quiet.
Some are jubilant.
All are loved.
