Crossing the Water
I grew up on the California Coast swimming in the Pacific Ocean, building sand castles on the edge of the surf, flip flops and suntan oil, sand between my toes.
Blissful moments that rise up for me even now are like tapestries woven of light and sensation – color dissolving into color, the sound of the receding tide pulling sand and stones in its wake. I can close my eyes and feel the sun on my skin and a cool breeze coming in from the offshore fog bank.
Artists draw deeply from these places that are so personal and particular yet can prove to be universal, at the same time. A felt place a painting can hold, that we can somehow inhabit together.
